Partners of TIMBERHAUS met in Baia Mare, Romania, for the Month 18 General Assembly, marking an important milestone in the project’s mission to accelerate climate-smart and sustainable wood construction across Europe.
Hosted by the Municipality of Baia Mare on 27–28 May, the two-day event brought together project partners to review progress across all work packages and align activities for the next phase of implementation. Discussions covered innovative products from under-utilised and post-consumer wood resources, climate-smart building design, testing and demonstration activities, sustainable wood supply chains, carbon removal methodologies, and the challenges and opportunities for increasing wood use in construction. Many co-creation activities were also highlighted, particularly linked to the New European Bauhaus festival which is currently taking place.
The assembly provided a valuable opportunity for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and strategic planning, reinforcing the project’s shared commitment to promoting circularity, reducing carbon emissions, and advancing sustainable building practices throughout Europe.
On the second day, partners explored the rich wood-building heritage of the Maramureș region during a field visit to several iconic sites, including Bârsana Monastery, Săpânța-Peri Monastery, and local woodworking and craft traditions. The visit offered inspiring examples of timber’s cultural, architectural, and environmental value, connecting centuries-old craftsmanship with the project’s vision for the future of sustainable construction.
As TIMBERHAUS enters its second half, the consortium remains focused on delivering innovative solutions that strengthen the role of wood as a key material in Europe’s transition towards a climate-neutral built environment.
