Timberhaus impacts
Through TIMBERHAUS, Berlin seeks to address policy gaps, removing barriers, and promoting best practices. Tegel Projekt GmbH, a local TIMBERHAUS partner, is developing the Schumacher Quartier at the site of the former Berlin Tegel airport. This will be a model district for timber construction with around 5,000 apartments for 10,000 people. Tegel Projekt has extensive expertise in timber construction and a large network in the Berlin-Brandenburg metropolitan region. They are also involved in the topic of reuse, as the Berlin Tegel project area will feature a mix of existing listed buildings and new areas for new buildings. Knowledge and approaches to sustainable construction, particularly focusing on the reuse of wood and hardwoods, will therefore be integrated into TIMBERHAUS. Additionally, the project aims to promote policy development and facilitate knowledge transfer among stakeholders.
