TIMBERHAUS & GINNGER to spotlight co-creation at Sustainable Places 2025 in Milan

European projects to showcase how timber innovation and community co-creation can drive sustainable neighbourhood transformation

The two  EU projects TIMBERHAUS and GINNGER, represented by Fondazione ICONS, will jointly feature at Sustainable Places 2025 (SP25), taking place 8–10 October in Milan.

The session will focus on how co-creation with communities in pilot sites can accelerate sustainable construction and neighbourhood regeneration. By pairing TIMBERHAUS’s timber-based building innovation with GINNGER’s participatory regeneration methods, the projects will show how technological advances and social engagement can work together to deliver real impact.

TIMBERHAUS promotes circular, climate-smart wood construction, using underutilised hardwood and post-consumer wood, with pilot projects in Berlin, Baia Mare, and Siena, while GINNGER develops neighbourhood regeneration approaches through digital tools and community participation, tested in six European cities.

At SP25, the two projects will demonstrate: how the co-creation methodology works, and how to ensure that technical solutions respond to local needs and contexts.

The contribution of both projects is particularly relevant to SP25’s mission of linking research outputs with real-world adoption in the built environment. By integrating material innovation with community participation, TIMBERHAUS and GINNGER provide an important model for sustainable, inclusive urban transformation.
